Selecting Venues For Camping In Utah

By Jerry Fox

Finding a nice venue for your adventure is the key to having a wonderful experience. There are numerous campgrounds for camping in Utah. To find the best place, there are several guidelines that need to be followed. These are explained below.

Before stakeholders start an adventure, they should know what routes will be taken each day as well as the most convenient location for settling down in the evening. Planning early enough prevents a situation where campers start looking for a site to set up their shelters when it is late in the evening. If stakeholders cannot individually identify convenient places, there are experienced guards and shepherds to help in this. Do not just pick out one location. Instead, select from a number of recommendations and ensure no other group will be hosted at the same time as you.

Most people will spend two or more nights in a given area. During this period, campers will require water for bathing, washing utensils and drinking. For this reason, a location should be close to a water source. The water must be clean for drinking and free from dangerous animals. Importantly, select a source whose water is moving rather than stagnant for two reasons. First, stagnant sources are habitats for disease-causing microorganisms such as mosquitoes. Secondly, since water remains in the same position for long, it is not clean for consumption.

Choose a leveled ground instead of the steep ground surface. This is important while sleeping. Sleeping in a flat area is more comfortable. In case of a steep area, one may roll down and end up injuring themselves. Health-wise, when the level of head and legs is not equal, normal blood circulation is affected. This may lead to nose bleeding and eventually death. If campers cannot find a level ground, they should manually flatten one.

Find out whether the space available will accommodate all marquees and campers to carry out extra activities conveniently. Notably, unless a location has been visited previously, getting a considerably large space that is flat and close to a water source is difficult. If possible, let members clear one area enough for all of them. Otherwise, marquees can be placed in different locations provided they are convenient in terms of resources and proximity to each other.

Even during dry seasons, it is possible to experience rains. Thus, a selected location should allow proper drainage. Most people prefer setting up tents in meadows or on spurs where water does not stand for long. Note that sleeping close to re-entrants along trails is risky. In case of heavy rains, all water plus materials therein will be carried along. Due to this weight, even tents can be broken down.

Relieving oneself must be done away from sleeping zones. Normally, fresh waste attracts flies and mosquitoes. These do not only act as a nuisance but may encourage the spread of diseases. If possible, organizers should book managed sites which contain such amenities. Else, there are numerous inexpensive mobile toilets that could be carried along.

During the windy season, it is important to consider the direction of the wind. Pitch tents against the wind so that they do not fall. Additionally, place sleeping bags in points where the whizzing sound of moving air will not affect your sleep.
