Tips Any Senior Fashion Blog Should Include

By Brenda Thomas

If you're a fashionable senior with some time on her hands, you might consider sharing what you have learned about style, after sixty, with your peers. Mature women sometimes have a tricky time navigating the current trends. Most of them are interested in creating a stylish impression without appearing dowdy or inappropriate. If you decide to start a senior fashion blog, there are certain suggestions that should be included.

First of all, you need to encourage seniors to trust their instincts. Mature women have been dressing themselves for a long time. Most have a good sense of what works for them and what doesn't. It isn't necessary to reinvent the wheel just because they're older. Some styles may have to be adjusted for a changing body, but not abandoned altogether.

Whatever you choose to wear needs to be comfortable and make you feel confident. Taking style risks isn't a bad thing. You just have to feel comfortable doing it. If you love heels for instance, go ahead and buy the four inch stilettos as long as you feel comfortable wearing them. If ballet flats are your choice, that's just as acceptable.

Keeping a style journal is often very helpful. For women who love browsing fashion magazines, saving images of outfits that interest them, and they think might be attractive on them, can be useful. Some will keep their journals online while others still love the idea of leafing through the actual magazines. These journals can be a source of inspiration for the next shopping spree.

Following the latest trends is something most mature women don't need to worry too much about. Not every trend is going to suit you no matter how old or young you are. You need to pick and choose what works for you and disregard anything that doesn't. There are classic staples in the closets of almost every senior that can be brought up to date with the change of a hemline or the addition of a trendy scarf.

You should avoid getting stuck in a style rut. It is easy to get too comfortable with a favorite clothing store and shop there all the time. If that store doesn't have much that appeals to you anymore, you need to branch out. You might browse a shop you've been passing by or try going online. There are some great websites that offer customers personal stylists and will allow free returns for any items that don't work out.

All women should have certain clothing items in their closet. One of them is a good fitting pair of jeans. Straight leg and boot cut denim are both flattering and comfortable. Jeans are something you can dress up or down depending on the occasion. You also need to have a tailored pair of dress pants in charcoal or black.

Every woman's closet should include a classic, hip length blazer. A crisp white blouse and a black pencil skirt should also be staples. Camisoles are inexpensive and can be used under sweaters, jackets, and sheer blouses.
