The Best New Orleans Boutique Hotels

By Charles McDonald

Whether traveling for business, fun or on a honeymoon, there are a number of lodging options when it comes to the Crescent City. For example, New Orleans boutique hotels often have a lot to offer. For, while there are a number of corporate hotels in the area, most are located in business and financial sectors. Whereas, these smaller hotels are often located in prime tourist areas such as Bourbon Street and the French Quarter.

While some neighborhoods still need to be rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina, most establishments in the French Quarter, Garden District and Bourbon Street areas have been back in business for years. Whether a new traveler, or having visited the city before, these areas provide a great variety when it comes to bars, restaurants, entertainment and attractions. While there are numerous forms of transportation, the street cars and trolleys remain two of the most popular forms in the city.

Unlike large hotels which often have the highest rates, travelers can often find better deals on these smaller and less known establishments. The attention and amenities are often far more personal than those found at many corporate establishments. In addition, when it comes to pets, these smaller hotels are often more accepting with lower fees and deposits than higher priced corporate chains.

There are also a number of Air B&B and traditional bed and breakfasts located in the heart of the city. While Air B&B allows guests to take over an entire apartment or house for the duration of a stay, cooking and food are not provided. Whereas, traditional bed and breakfasts often allow for a hot breakfast cooked by owners along with the ability to converse with other guests over a meal.

One reason many individuals prefer to stay at youth hostels over hotels is that many guests often leave food and other items when departing. As such, these items are often placed on a free shelf in the pantry or refrigerator. Travelers can also find free clothes, shoes, towels and other items from time to time which prior guests have left in bins marked "free" at these establishments.

Bed and breakfasts can offer a great opportunity for honeymooners and those celebrating a special occasion. While this is the case, these establishments can often be booked a year or more in advance. As such, when planning a romantic stay at a bed and breakfast in the Crescent City, it is often best to book as far in advance as possible.

When traveling to New Orleans for a festival or other event, it can often be good to stay nearby. Although, for those desiring to stay in the French Quarter, Garden District or other popular tourist area, there are often shuttles available for a nominal daily or multi-ride fee. While there are taxi-cabs and public transportation options available, these can often be quite costly in comparison.

For couples or groups, vacation packages can often be a great option. While there are often a number of attractions, features, tickets and other items provided as part of a travel package, many of these benefits often go to waste. As such, it is always advised to do a cost comparison before booking one of these packages to assure obtaining the best overall price when booking a trip.
