Getting Ready For Vegan Trips

By Kimberly Stewart

You may not be a picky eater, but there may be specific foods you would rather not eat. For vegans, this will include meat, fish, poultry, as well as products made from these animals. Your reasons for abstaining from these products may be based on ethical, religious, or even dietary reasons. This means that if you want to go on vegan trips, you need to plan meticulously. This allows you to go to destinations where you will feel comfortable being yourself.

To avoid unpleasant surprises, you need to do your homework. This should first be by identifying the place you will go to. Although it is easy to get plant based foods almost anywhere, some places may focus more on meat and seafood-based meals. Reading through blogs and browsing the Internet can help you identify a couple of locations. From here, consult with other people before you settle on one place.

Once you decide where you will be going, it is advisable to start identifying hotels and restaurants, where you will stay and eat. Establishments that have vegetarian options on the menu are a good place to start, as they can easily tweak some of their foods to suit you. You can also talk to a travel agent, and they can give you a list of places to try. From here, you might just need to call the people in charge of those places, to see whether they can accommodate your needs.

Figure out how you will travel, whether by road, air or ship. This way, you can also make your dietary needs known. This will be necessary, especially, if they serve any foods or drinks on the way. You should also consider carrying some snacks just in case nothing they have suits, or pleases you. This can be small things like crackers, or even your creamer, for the hot beverages they will offer.

House swaps have become the norm these days. They allow you to vacation in a rental home, which might be cheaper and more comfortable than a hotel. This is an excellent option considering the specific dietary needs of most vegans. There is also the option of renting a holiday home, where you are able to control the setting and prepare your meals.

Grocery runs might also be a bit different in new locations, and this is where prior research will come in handy. You should identify shops and local markets where you can get fresh produce and other things you may need. Some items may be more expensive in that area, and you can save yourself the trouble of looking for them, by carrying your own.

Do not hesitate to ask questions or raise complaints, no matter how small or petty they may seem. You may have to make some minor compromises, but ensure that these do not affect your lifestyle. These complaints may also help other establishments improve their services.

There are also travel agencies which can help make this process easier for you. At these places, you can easily pick out a location, and they will quickly offer you a list of places to stay. If you have any out of the ordinary requests or needs, make sure to state them in a timely manner.
