A Moment Of Peace With Rock Garden Fountains

By Larry Peterson

We live in a fast-paced world of convenience and yet instead of using that to establish peace and harmony, we are all rushing around all the time feeling stressed and over-extended. By setting up a place of harmony in your home, using rock garden fountains and other techniques, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the outside world and come home to yourself.

Water features are making a comeback and part of the reason is because they have such calming qualities. It is such a simple concept and yet they can have a significant effect on the atmosphere in your garden or home. The sound of running water has a very calming quality and will help you set up an area of peace and quiet in your home.

Your peaceful place should be a comfortable area to simply sit and breathe. Set it up so that you feel safe and calm, with no busy distractions or reminders of things you have to do. Schedule in this time, so that you don't feel selfish or run out of time for it at the end of the day. It is an important priority and should be treated as such. There should be no guilt.

For those who like to read, establishing a reading area is a great addition. Fill it with books and magazines that you find calming and restorative. Resist the urge to put too many in there as this can add pressure, making you feel like a failure if you don't read everything. If you begin to feel like this, just leave one book there, so you don't feel too much pressure.

Set up part of the area as a yoga space. You only need enough room for a yoga mat, which can be rolled up and put away after each session. Yoga is very effective for stress relief, reduced anxiety and depression. It gives you a few moments to come into your body and strengthen the bond between body and mind as well as being an excellent tool for strengthening the body.

Your peaceful space doesn't need to be a castle of solitude. Inviting people into this space won't ruin it, but if you establish it as a peaceful place it can also benefit the people that you choose to bring in. If you have children, you don't need to lock them out. Bring them in and see if the solace you have found there can be extended to them.

If you have friends or family members who are struggling with anxiety and depression, why not invite them along into the space. Sometimes all we need is permission to relax and be a little selfish for a few minutes and instantly the pressure is taken off and we can relax again. Sharing your space with others is a wonderful way to help them.

Our homes are our sanctuaries, but if you don't establish an area that is calming and relaxing, you will never be able to switch off and come back to yourself. Understand the importance of this time and realise that it is not selfish, but necessary for us to function without stress and obligations constantly tugging at us.
