Spend Your Holiday In Style With Atlanta City Bus Tours

By Sharon Howard

The best way to discover what interesting spots a city has is to go on a guided tour of it. To have a great experience during the upcoming holidays, you might want to try Atlanta city bus tours. There are lots of historical locations, shopping malls and galleries that will keep you busy throughout the day.

Your tour is bound to last 5 hours on average, judging by the schedules that most agencies follow. While there are many routes in and out of the city, most agencies stick to sightseeing historical buildings and sites. Your itinerary may also include a drive past the houses of renowned businessmen, actors and artists.

Once you pay for your tour, be sure to ask where the designated pickup point is and at what time you should be there. Remember your payment may not cover meals and entry fees to certain areas. The prudent thing to do would be to have some cash on the side.

During typical trips, tour organizers allow tourists to hop off to relieve themselves at timed intervals. In case you want to spend the rest of your day at one particular site, for instance the CNN Center, you are allowed to end your tour at that spot while the remaining tourists continue with their trip. This is not encouraged for those who are completely new to the city.

The places to explore are numerous. While an ordinary unguided tour of the entire area may take 5 days, hopping onto a guided trip can cut this duration to between 5 and 6 hours. One aspect that your organizers should not fail to show you is the African American history of Atlanta.

It is through exploring this that you will understand what the civil rights movement was all about. There is a lot of information on this at the Martin Luther King Jr Center. The center was established in 1968 to promote the legacy that Dr. King left. It has historians who are well versed with the life of Dr. King and his mantra of advocacy through nonviolent civil disobedience.

Your itinerary should also include a visit to the Fox Theater. Originally built to be a temple in 1929, it has a history that has seen it change to become a highly visited theatrical venue. Nowadays, it has an ongoing stream of operas, rock concerts and Broadway shows. If your organizers plan well, you may be able to site a performance.

Another interesting location is the Swan House. For long, it has been a favorite setting for movie filming, the last shot set appearing in the Hunger Games movie. It is billed as the most photographed building within the city. Constructed in 1928, the building features a classic exterior and interior. It originally housed the Edward H. Inman family.

Your trip will be incomplete without a tour of Atlantic Station. This is where you get to meet all your shopping needs. It hosts notable stores such as Gap, Victorias Secret, Banana Republic and IKEA. There is an IMAX theater and several restaurants within it as well.
