Tips For Booking A Hana Cruise Excursion

By Cynthia Olson

A cruise excursion can be an exciting and interesting part of any cruise. You get to see the local sights and participate in enjoyable activities. However, people sometimes have trouble taking pleasure in the fun of the excursions because they have not prepared properly. Others have their trips ruined by careless actions while on shore. There are some things you can do to help your hana cruise excursion run smoothly.

Most sail ships stop in several ports of call, so you will want to take a look at your options for each of the ports. There are many activities that are available; you can participate in water activities or other types of activities on shore. There are a few different ways that a sail trip can be booked: either through the sail line, a private tour company, or you can simply get off the ship and find an independent tour guide that will take you where you want to go.

After I book a sail, I usually spend some time searching the internet for activities that can be done in each city/port that I am visiting. There is a lot of information available online, and you can often book the trips through private companies if you don't want to go on trips with the sail line. The advantage to working with a private company is that they are often cheaper than what the sail line offers.

There also are a few advantages to booking an trip through a private company or an independent contractor. The biggest advantages here include price (it is usually quite a bit cheaper) and you also get a more personal experience because the groups are much smaller than the sail line trips. Just be sure that you make it back to the ship in time, because the boat won't wait if you aren't there!

A third choice that you have is to not book anything and simply get off the sail ship and see what you can find on land. Many of the ports have local cab drivers and tour companies that are waiting on the boardwalk; they are ready to show you around the port. All you have to do is negotiate a price for the services and then enjoy the day!

If local currency is required, you can get it through the purser's office, but you need to know the rate of exchange. If the US dollar is worth 25 of their bills, you know that 250 in their bills amount to five US dollars, and so on. Knowing can keep you from getting ripped off. If the rate of exchange is not so easy, you might want to carry a calculator.

Stay With Your Group- There may be times on your sail trip where you could wander off from the group and go your own way. Sometimes this is a part of the outing, but be sure to get back with the group at the appointed time. Meet the group on time and be extra careful to be back on the ship before its departure time. Missing the ship could make for one of the worst trips you could imagine.

Aside from this convenience, cruise-led tours have another asset: being in line with the meal or departure schedule. Any tour guide, in this case, is aware of the time all travelers must be back for dining or for when the ship leaves. With an independent tour, you're on your own.
